WW2 digger Nev Anning passed on 2014 and commission by he’s wife to have Nev carved placing orchards in a tree which he loved doing…..He was carved from a tree felled a week before the carving commenced and turned out Nev planted the tree some 40yrs ago…

This 70kg Carving has qualities in the polishing along with the Subtle curves of a large snake this weight. I enjoyed making this piece as it took over 3 weeks to make.

Commissioned by Patrice O’sullivan. Carved with a tungsten chain the timber was like steel and created enormous friction on the saw as Australia has some of the hardest timbers and this is one. The Brolga sits in the garden today of Thurloogoona Station Western QLD 800km inland from Brisbane.

This lung fish is carved from Tallowood a very hard Eucalyptus and was hidden in a garage by the local councilor for years with many attempts to retrieve it as public art for the town to enjoy! Finally a significant member of the community had contacts high up to negotiate its removal from the shed and placed where it should be, in public.

This piece took 3years for the timber to finally cure for polishing and was finally sold to Tibor Rasash into the foyer of hes hotel chain. I had a dream for this to go into the Chairmans Lounge in Quantas but the fact a friend bought it made it so much more special!

I was chosen by the Harbour matster who lived in Maleny and happen to see me carve at the Maleny wood show. We met over a cuppa and from their organised to fly to Groote Eylandt in the NT. When I arrived after 4 flights into the Eylandt. I finally saw the log and my saws weren’t big enough to cut right through the log and fuel wasnt available for the first 2 days making the situation interesting though finally pulling myself together I managed to create to end piece after seven days morning and evening complete this piece.
